Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator of Hamilton and In the Heights, will helm the long-awaited cinematic adaptation of RENT author Johnathan Larson’s Tick, Tick… Boom! The end result is a fantastic film musical that is as much a love letter to theatre as it is to Larson and his tragic storey of short-lived talent. Which is perhaps why Miranda is such an excellent fit for the material in his directorial debut, and not just because his multi-award-winning musical Hamilton is all about capturing the beauty and tragedy of fleeting genius: the Broadway polymath has also been vocal about how Tick, Tick… Boom! influenced and inspired him as a creator, and he even starred in a production of the show a few years ago.
